Just a quickie.

The theme was “Frozen”, so I figured it’d be fun to draw my interpretation of Jack Frost. And on a related note, it’s been freezing here in New York lately. Time to break out the Totes!
Painted in Easy Paint Tool SAI.

There’s a Japanese show called Tensai! Shimura Doubutsu-en that I love (I think the translation is Genius! Shimura Zoo). If you can find clips of it online (check veoh.com), it’s worth a watch, although the clips usually are not translated. You get to learn about animals. They also often invite celebrities on to help take care of red pandas, penguins, cheetahs, giraffes, etc. I think one chick got a hippo.

They also have a regular cast who they send out to visit zoos and stuff. Masaki Aiba (who’s also a member of the pop group Arashi) is a regular – I’ve just watched a segment where they sent him to feed pelicans, and one of them snuck up behind him and nearly inhaled his whole arm. They seem to enjoy watching him suffer for their enjoyment. I enjoy it too. And I like Aiba, he’s a dork. My drawing looks nothing like him, though.

Watch Aiba get his ass kicked by a diesel kangaroo on Youtube!

openCanvas 4 for lines, Photoshop for color.

My babies are getting plastic surgery, well most of them, anyway. These guys are, from left to right, Jeremy, Adia and Scott, half of the main characters from an untitled story I’d like to illustrate one day, when I get the chance to settle down and actually write the damned thing. They’ve been around forever in my head. I’ll color the three of them properly soon.

Design-wise, Adia and Scott haven’t changed much at all. As for the rest of the characters, the more their personalities have been fleshed out over the years, the less I’ve felt that their original designs really suited them. I started playing around with redesigns earlier this year, and after much sketching, this guy happened:

And lo, Jeremy was found. It’s the first time I ever drew him and thought, “Yeah, ok. That’s Jeremy.” He makes me happy.

Here’s some really old drafts of the kids, in case anyone was curious: (links are to deviantART)

Circa 2004: [link]
Circa 2005: [link]
Circa 2006: [link]
